Pentacle Flowers

These paintings begin with the pentacle flower, which is created by interlacing the two forms of a five-pointed star (commonly referred to as The Star of Bethlehem),and a flower. When these forms are seen woven together they represent heaven and earth, as well as the union of the male and female. Painted over the pentacle flower is the pelvis bone. Both the female and male are represented. The pelvis area can be seen as a seat, or base, of our energy. And the sacrum (located within the pelvis) symbolically respresents the sacred bone, considered to be a mystical seed of each person's future. Surrounding these overlapping forms are the five phases of an individual's life. For the female: birth, menarche; maternity; menopause; and death. For the male: birth; initiation (puberty); marriage; rest from labor; and death.
